Most cars don't even hit top speed in 5th because it's OD. Top speed is usually achieved in 4th going into 5th topped out in 4th will slow you down. I had to put a chip in my pontiac to get rid of the speed limiter but I don't trust it over 120 and I'm on ZR rated tires and BCA bearings. My buddy took me over 150 in his Camaro SS on a 5 mile bridge in Tampa FL and its pretty un-safe. The windows blow out of the seals at around 140, street lines go solid and I can only describe it as tunnel vision. I know VW's get up to 200 now with new R32's are around.

check this out and you'll change your tune about GTI's...

^^^^Jay, I like your avatar.......LOL

"Get'em!!" LOL

As for my Ranger, anything above 145mph my flaps automatically activate and the parachute deploys around 100mph......Ford's new speed limiter system.
