Instrument Cluster Removal

Can anyone tell me how to remove the gear indicator from the instrument cluster in a 2004 Ranger? I am trying to remove the cluster to replace burned out bulbs but can't see how to disconnect the gear indicator. Thanks.

I believe in 2004 they changed the clusters quite a bit, however I'm not sure if the gear indicator's cable changed with it. On 03 and earlier rangers, you had a small white block on the bottom of the steering column held on by a single bolt. I forget what size, but it's fairly small. Imperial size, I remember that much.
You loosened that then with a pair of needle nose pliers, you lifted the actual cable off the metal 'hook' that pulled it. Was easiest to do in gear 1.

Whether or not this has been changed in 04 I do not know, but it may still apply.

It looks like there is a spring loaded clip on the left and right sides of the indicator. I think if i push them it will release, but don't want to do it until I am sure I won't be sorry.

oh, oh. I see what you're talking about now. In the older clusters, they would just pop out; simply glued in.

The tabs released the indicator. Now I see that they used special bulbs in the cluster.
