Wiper/washer timing is one of the functions of the Generic Electronic Module, a black plastic box inside the center section of the dash near the radio. If you are having a wiper problem, it is more likely due to the Multifunction (stalk) Switch, wiper motor, relays or wiring.

 

Thanks if i may,My wipers were only working on high would park anywhere,now its colder here they will work a few times off and on once i shut truck off they work once again any thoughts,thanks

 

The Park Switch in the wiper motor tells the GEM when the wipers are above the park position. After the wipers are shut of at the stalk switch, the GEM applies power to the motor via the Park Relay until the wiper reaches the park position and then the GEM turns off the relay. So, it would seem that the problem could be the Park Switch (bad WW motor), Park Relay, wiring or GEM.

The high/low speed selection is commanded by the stalk switch input to the GEM which selects the speed by activating or deactivating the Wiper Hi/Lo Relay. Possibilities I see here are problems with the WW motor, Multifunction Switch, Hi/Lo Relay, wiring or the GEM.

 

Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread here. Trying to determine if the park feature of the wipers is built into the wiper motor or controlled by a separate relay on my '94 Ranger.

The wipers stop at whatever position they are in when I move the switch to off. If I set intermittent, they move about an inch then stop until the next "on" signal is received, then move about another inch. Kinda deduced there must be some control that sends a quick on signal to the wipers at the set interval and then the park feature lets the wipers run through one cycle then stop. Because my park feature doesn't work, the intermittent feature doesn't work either. Need to replace motor or switch/relay someplace? TIA.

 

My 1997 has 2 relays,one for parking the wipers,i replaced both and now my wipers work great
