I just bought a 2000 Ranger, and would like to do the EATC Mod.
There is a Junkyard nearby that has a handful of Explorers on the lot
ranging from 95-00.
Which year would be the best fit for my 00 truck, and for a Parts List,
I'm going to take a stab in the dark.

1) Head Unit & Wiring pigtail, or as much as I can get
2)sun sensor and wiring
3)external temp sensor (one or both for OHC upgrade later)
4) Fan Speed Controller
5) internal air temp sensor
6) blend door actuator & Connector Marked with EATC or ATC on it (not MAN)

Anything Else??

98~2001 Ex EATCs have a green display that is a good match to the rest of your 2000 night illumination. 95~97 displays are closer to blue than green.


Grab 2 of the small diameter white corrugated ducts that run between the plenum and the interior temp sensor. The Explorer uses only one but it's easier to retrofit in a Ranger using 2. Get a couple of the black elbows too.

Be sure to get the tiny metal clips that hold the sunload and interior sensors in place on their dash pins. It's easy to leave these behind when pulling the sensors. Getting some extras would be a good plan.

Be careful with the exterior temp sensor. Many high end Explorers have 2 similar temp sensors up front near the DS headlight/grille area - one for the EATC and one for the overhead console. These have different electrical characteristics so they are not interchangeable. Look for red/orange and pink/black wires to ID the correct sensor for the EATC. (The console sensor uses blue/white and blue/yellow)

It is a good idea not to mix parts from the early and late EATC systems because there are many differences in the pinouts. Because of the green display and the newer parts, I'd get everything from the 98~01 style EATC for use in your 2000.

Be sure to select the best looking/lowest mile/newest year Blower Speed Controller because this part can be a weak link in the system. The latest have improved corrosion over earlier years. So, if you can find a 1999/2000/2001, do it. It would also be smart to get a couple of spares if you can.

Also grab an extra EATC blend door actuator motor or two if possible. These get a real workout due to the continuous corrections by the EATC controls and are another potential problem area.

Take a few square relays from the underhood fuse/relay box. You will need one or two to complete the EATC conversion wiring. I've found that the OE Ford relays are far more reliable than the typical cheap generic relays at the local parts store.

You'll need the complete multicolored EATC vacuum harness the attaches to the back of the head unit.

Get the matching pigtail(s) with every electrical component. Try to maximize the length of the attached wires.

My blower currently only works on High.... Need to replace resistor under hood by blower motor itself.
If I do EATC conversion, do I need to replace this resistor, or could I save the $20 and put it toward the EATC Parts??
