FYI, my 2000 has the same circuit/wire for the driver's door switch input.

Connector 221 - Pin 8 - Circuit 765 - Yellow wire/Black stripe

Got a question about the Disable Door Chime Mod:

I got the relay hooked up and have power from the Yellow/Blk from the Audio HU plug, and the yellow/black wire from the Gray GEM connector to the correct relay pins. When I hit the momentary switch I hear the relay click, but no effect on the door chime. Guess I've got something wrong, but it all looks fine to me.

I have the Radio Shack momentary switch and the 5 pin relay, hooked up exactly as in the diagram for a 2001 ranger.

Any comments?

Thanks

Several Rangers had this mod done successfully. Was the original YE/BK GEM wire cut at the "X" before extending the two ends to the relay? Other than that, there's nothing to do except recheck the wiring.

Seriously!!

I also did the GEM wire cutting/splicing mod years back. Yes it was easy, and yes it got rid of the door dinger, but this way is much much better. Especially since the headlight alarm still works. I usually drive with the fogs/running lamps on, and I've left them on before. This is a great mod!!!!!

Yes, I cut it at the X as indicated on the diagram. I also had tapped that same yell/blk GEM wire for my door locks, maybe I will move that wire and try the chime disable. I will definitely recheck my wiring.

Thanks Bob!

Ok, Got It! Chime Disable is working great!!!

Bob, my wiring was at fault as you suspected. I had the connector too far down on the yell/blk GEM wire, on an previous splice for my Electric Door Locks. I reconnected it up higher on the wire. Now it works (or doesn't work) like a charm, I mean chime!

Thanks again Bob! You are R-F's resident Electrical Engineer!

So, I tried to do this mod today on my 04. I tapped into black/pink wire on radio harness. and cut the dinger wire under the dash, extended it, and hooked it up to the relay, then hooked up the switch. I couldn't get it to work. I think I have cut the correct wire, because when it's cut, the dinger stops. I put a temporary toggle switch in for now until I can figure it out on Thursday. Anybody with an 04 that's done this mod that might have any suggestions on how they did it? If I can figure it out, I will take pictures and try to add to this for future reference, but I spent about an hour or so yelling at my truck and didn't get it to work, haha.

I don't have a 2004~2006 here to test the schematic but it has been verified by others. Recheck your wiring and be sure that you don't have the wires at pins 87A and 30 reversed.

I was thinking maybe I was using the wrong wires in general, or maybe the relay was not the right kind, like maybe a SPST instead of a SPDT. It was something I picked up from Pep-Boys. Didn't really check if it was truck specific, just bought one that looked like what I needed. I was in a hurry, haha. I will check my wiring, maybe go pick up another relay, then try again.

This looks like a great mod. Anyone done it on a 2007+ ? I've got a 2010 and most of the time (auto windows, fog light ect..) the wiring colors are different.

A lot of rebirthed threads in the last week or so. No info on the above question. To tell you the truth I'm only writing this so I can remember where it is if I feel I want to do this mod in the future.

rwenzing sent me an email with some updated info for my 2010 and I did the mod to my truck.

I spend a lot working on/in/around my truck and being able to temp silence the ding with the push of a button is very nice to have.

Big thanks to Bob :)

so the reason that this only works when tthe key is in ACC is because you tap the yel/blk thats only hot in ACC.. so if i tap into a constant hot will this work even when the keys are not in ACC?

i ask because my dorr switch sticks constantly and the chime and dome light drive me freaking bonkers.. oh and what car does not let you turn off your dome light!! there is no solid OFF for the dome light so i have to keep pulling the bulbs cuz they think the door is open.. annoying

This is a very common problem with Rangers and the usual fix is to clean/lubricate the malfunctioning door switch or replace it if necessary. I wouldn't want the battery to be continuously powering a relay with the key off just to 'bandaid' the dome light and chime problem.

true.. just had the cruise control sensor recall taken care of and that was a problem with the sensor getting constant 12v and sometimes when would leak it would catch on fire.. not cool..

maybe someone could point me towards a thread that has some detail on how to replace that switch in the door? ive cleaned and lubed several times by spraying carb cleaner and wd40 but after a few times of opening the door it sticks again :-(

I know this thread is several years old but I would like to to do this mod on my '04 ranger and the pictures no longer exist on the post. Any chance someone has the wiring diagrams and perhaps the others?

Thanks guys

Does anyone have photos of the process, step by step guide, or photos of the finished result, I’m having trouble understanding the limited instructions.
