2001 B4000 Brake Issues
2001 B4000 Brake Issues
Hi Everyone,
Truck: 2001 Mazda B4000 4x4.
Issue:
Very Poor Braking performance
ABS kicks on almost every time when coming to a stop
Pedal sinks to the floor (sometimes)
Parts I have replaced:
Brake booster
Master Cylinder
Rear ABS sensor
R/F Wheel bearing assembly
Bled all brakes - No air
Checked & adjusted rear shoes
Rear shoes @ 75%
Front pads @ 60%
I am at a complete loss with this braking system. Does anyone have any ideas that could be causing my issues still? I have to push the brake halfway to the floor just to keep the truck from moving when sitting in Drive.
Thanks for any help!

Welcome to the forum
I assume no obvious brake fluid leaks, you do not have to top up fluid every week?
And since you have bled the brake lines in the normal manner, I assume, then I would suspect you have air in the system, but in the 4 wheel ABS module
You need a special tool to bleed these
It is an electronic device that plugs into the vehicle and sometimes directly into ABS module and opens the valves to allow bleeding any air trapped inside out.
This is only needed if Master ever ran dry, or if ABS lines were unhooked at the module, allowing air to get inside
Most brake shops would have these tools and it shouldn't take more than 1 hour to bleed the system, so under $150
The cheapest scanner that does this is $200us I think, but not sure it works on Fords
There may be some DIY articles or videos on on bleeding Ford ABS modules, you just need to apply voltage to each valve to open it and close it while pressing down on the pedal, the trick is, of course, knowing which wires to use because there are usually 3 valves/solenoids PER WHEEL
I have read, but never tried it, than if you drive on gravel, or other slippery surfaces, and apply brakes to get ABS to work, like 40 times, it can clear out the air, I can not see this actually working since the air is just getting compressed, its not being "bled out" because a wheel caliper/cylinder is not opened to allow fluid(with the air) to flow out

No leaks, the reservoir is always full.
It's possible the reservoir was emptied bc I had a wheel cylinder blow out while on the road.
I'll try calling around and see if someone can bleed the abs pump.
Thanks !
