Icon4 2001 Ford Ranger Fuel Tank Replacement Issues

Hi guys, I have a 2001 Ford Ranger 2.5L 4Cly regular cab. Someone drilled a hole in the gas tank to siphon the gas. I need to replace the gas tank and I have called every autopart store near me (I live in Maui, Hawaii) and not a single one has been able to even find a way to order the fuel tank. They say that nothing comes up no product number, no model number, nothing, and so there is nothing they can do. I've also checked online to see if I could order one myself and I've found absolutely nothing. I've checked Fordparts.com as well as called Ford and all they could tell me was that it is a 16.5 gallon tank.

One mechanic suggested simply getting a similarly sized tank and just modifying it to fit? Is this the best choice? Will any 16.5 gallon tank fit into the spot easily? Are there any years that have similar or the same gas tanks?

Any help would be amazing as I feel like I've exhausted most of my options up to this point.

Thanks Guys!
