2.3 gas tank to 4.0 gas tank, fuel pump q

wondering if i need to change the fuel pumps= on my 96 2.3 if I swap in a larger tank from my 99 4.0, wondering because i was pricing out a fuel pump online and the 2.3 pump and the 4.0 were different.

Can I just drop in the 2.3 pump into the bigger tank?

Never tried so can't say

The pump itself is not the issue, the length of the assembly and the fitting at the top are

You would look up 1996 models for both, NOT 1999 that's a Returnless fuel system so for sure different
So look up 1996 4.0l fuel tank pump assembly

The larger lank size didn't change, just the pump assembly
