do you need a wire for keyed power (12v) or a wire to know that the PATS key is in the igniton?

The manual just calls it the key sense wire.
This kit can be used in any car, with or without PATS.
Even cars without PATS still have a key sense wire, proof being the door chime.
I know that the manual doesn't mean keyed power.
So I'm looking for the generic key sense wire.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thx,
F

A black/pink wire goes to ground in the ignition key lock when the key is inserted. The wire runs up the right side of the steering column.

Just watch out for the airbag wires in the same area. They may have a yellow sheath around them for identification.
