2003 Ford Ranger XLT Misfire
2003 Ford Ranger XLT Misfire
Hi all.. The other day I bought an 03 Ranger with the 3.0L V6 Automatic Transmission. Got it from a tow yard had about 160k or so on the clock. I knew it had issues when I bought it which is why I got it reasonably cheap. CEL is on, has the following codes
P0306 . Misfire Cylinder 6 (this is the only code turing the light on the rest are pending and have been)
P0113
P0117
P0118
I know a couple of the pending codes are related to the IAT and Coolant Temp Sensor, and the Temp Gauge doesn't work so bad sensor i'm thinking on that?
The misfire is more noticeable at idle, also after the truck has warmed up the CEL will flash but only at idle or low rpms, if I keep the rpms above 1500 the light stays constant and it doesn't flash while driving down the road. Plugs suck and I'm sure the wires do too so gonna change them soon, but prob won't stop the misfire cause when I ran a compression test it showed around 60 or so for Cylinder 6 which I know is low but the other 5 cylinders are fine no compression issues on them. Engine lopes at idle again if the Rpms are low but raising them smooths it out. The truck drives and accelerates fine has no problem getting up to speed doesn't backfire at all or hesitate. I'm wondering what could be causing the compression issue and hence the misfire. I don't think it has any blowby because when I remove the oil cap with the engine running theres is no smoke or anything coming out, also the intake tubing and throttle body are dry no oil or any oil residue in them at all. Truck also doesn't smoke out of the exhaust and the heater works great so i'm thinking I can rule out a head gasket esp since Cylinder #5 tests normal. A neighbor told me it could be a valve on that cylinder maybe not seating fully.
