2004 Door Dinger Mod *UPDATE* SUCCESS!!

Anyone know how to disable the door dinger on a 2004? I am more looking to diable the headlights on chime because I installed the Auto Mirror but I know this was accomplished in 2003 and down by doing the door dinger mod.

If anyone has any info or can point me in the right direction, it would be a big help.

I would try a similar procedure as used on the 2003-back. I don't know for sure that it would work but it is easily reversible and should not damage anything.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Go to the Smart Junction Box (PS kick panel). You will find 4 color-coded connectors attached to the SJB.
Find the larger 32-pin black connector at the SJB. Locate the yellow wire with black stripe (YE/BK) and cut it 2" from the connector. Tape off or otherwise insulate the short stub end coming from the connector.
Go to the smaller 22-pin black connector of the SJB. Locate the gray/red (GY/RD) wire.
Tee the remaining end of the YE/BK to the GY/RD using a Scotch-lok or similar means.
Hopefully, that will work. If not, it would be easy to change it back. Be aware that this may disable the chime completely and make it easier to lock your keys inside or leave the headlight light switch on.
Thanks Bob! I will try this out hopefully tomorrow. I had the autolights in my last truck and I never left the switch on so I should be ok with that. I also have the keyless entry keypad so no worries about the keys.
Thanks again and I will update this with my results.
Thanks to Bob we now have a how-to on doing the door dinger mod for 2004 (and I assume this will also work on 2005-2006 but I cant be sure)
As Bob said above, its is exactly the same as 2003 and down only in a different location...
You will need to remove the right side kick panel to expose the wires needed to do this mod. This is a fairly easy mod to do and I think the hardest thing was to remove the plastic screw holding in the kick panel without breaking it. By doing this mod you accomplish removing the door dinger when you leave your keys in the ignition and you also disable the headlights on chime.
In this first pic you can see the 2 connectors (circled) where you will find the two wires needed to do this mod. There are 2 bigger connectors and 1 smaller connector. The YE/BLK wire you need to find is in the bigger connector in the middle of the 3 and the GREY/RED is located in the smaller connector to the right of the 2 bigger ones.
In this 2nd pic you can see the cut YE/BLK wire and you can see where it is tapped into the GREY/RED wire on the smaller connector. You should tape off the end of the YE/BLK wire so you dont have any electrical problems.
Thats it. Put everything back together and you are done.
Good job, Mike! You should add this to the How-to Submissions. Also, I looked at a 2006 wiring diagram and i can't see why this same procedure wouldn't work for all Rangers 2004~2006.
Any suggestions for my 98 Ranger??? It has been dinging (sp?) even when i take my keys out of the ignition sometimes. I have to wiggle the key switch to make it stop. Thanks....
That's a problem within the ignition switch itself and it is not uncommon on higher mileage Fords.
You should be able to disable the dinger completely by doing this:
Your 98 GEM looks different from the one shown in this how-to but the wire color codes for the mod are the same. The two wires (yellow/black and gray/red) are next to each other in the largest connector (26-pin).
