5 speed Explorer?

So while I was taking the carpet out of my truck, I noticed that on the shifter mounty thingy (the black square on the floor that has a rubber seal around the shifter) there was two labels. Saying on one side "Ranger Front" and on the other side "Explorer Front". Now Ive got two questions, 1. I have never seen a 98+ explorer with a 5 speed, so do they exist? and 2. What would happen if i mounted it with "Explorer front" facing up? Cuz the holes that the shift boot screw into are striped. Would I be able to reverse it and use the other holes?

Here is a pic of said part:

Thanks to rngprerunner for the pic

Not sure about the other thing.

Ha, looks like Im gonna have to go out tomorrow and flip it around and try it. There must be a reason why ford defined the directions though.... but it is a square piece... guinea pig time, lol

Yes, you can flip it around and it will work fine. I finally had to get a new one because every corner piece is broken off.

Explorer Sports (2 door Ranger based) used the M5OD up until 2003, and all V6 Explorers had the M5OD available through 2002. I've seen maybe 2 or 3 new body style Explorers with manual transmissions.

I've only ever seen a manual explorer in Sport/2dr form. Buckets, shorty console, manual. Was like a 98ish 4.0L.

LOL! That was the reason I flipped mine to Explorer Front! I've been rockin' it for almost 2 years now. lol. Soon it will be removed completely for a new mod...

Half right. You could get a manual in the xls 4 door explorers, but they had to be ordered. I had a co-worker with a 2000 xls 4x4 4door with a manual. I wanted to buy it from him.

Were you the only one quoted? No....didn't think so lol. You were right by saying the sports were offered with a 5spd. While Christian was wrong with saying he only thought sports were offered with manual trans. Helps to ready my entire post(including all quotes)
