86, 2.3 sohc. No spark from ignition coil.

Finally fixed my fuel issues, and now i have spark issues. was driving down the road after leaving the grocery store. made a left, and the truckshut of. no sputtering just died as if i turned off the ignition. when i popped the hood, i noticed my ps pump lid had came off, and fluid was everywhere, in the area of the coil. Hasn't started since. I replaced the ignition coil, even though it definitely still worked before the engine died, but it was only 25 bucks and definitely the old one was gross. still doesn't work. Wondering what to do next

Make sure distributor is turning when you crank the engine, don't say of course it is check it, timing belt could gave broke, so no Cam or AUX spin, and so no distributor spin

Next stop is TFI module, it is what "sparks" the coil, if distributor is turning :)

distributor turns, belt is nice and tight, looks fairly good i believe it was replaced fairly recently. I replace the tfi module about a year ago. is there a way to test the module?

Yes, info here: https://therangerstation.com/tech_li...agnostic.shtml

There is a hall effect sensor in the distributor, that's what actually starts spark, it tells TFI module when to spark coil to get spark to #1 thru #4

This system does not need any other inputs for start up, if you have Fuel Injection the EFI computer will send spark advance/retard timing "suggestions" to the TFI module, but it doesn't need them to start spark or when engine is idling

Make sure TFI has 12volts with key on, same 12v wire should be on coil "+" as well

Okay so it turns out that the TFI module was bad I went and got a replacement for that module popped it in and the truck started right up, and drove okay. While driving I smelled some antifreeze so when I got home I flush the radiator filled it back up with water and antifreeze, and then started it up and immediately noticed my rould idle and backfire issues were back. replaced the negative cable, since it was in rough shape, but i am still getting rough idle, smike from the tailpipe, and will only idle for about 30 seconds. if it doesnt die completely, it will start idling fine again and then sputtering almost in 5 second increments. so idle fine, sputter, idle fine, sputter. could i have messed the new tfi midile up by replacing it before i changed the negative cable?
