ABS and brake light
ABS and brake light
Apologies if this question is in the wrong place. I recently purchased a 1999 Ford Ranger XL with automatic transmission 2 Wheel Dr. Immediately had a problem with a yellow ABS light and a red brake light. They would come on initially on startup and then go out. You could drive around normally if you used minimal brake pressure and no sudden stops. If you pressed the pedal down a little on the firm side, the ABS light and the red brake light would come on. They would remain on until the key was turned off. If you were to restart the engine, the lights would come on initially and then turn off. They would stay off as long as you did not press too hardly on the brake pedal. I have checked that the brake fluid is not low in the reservoir, I’ve bled the brakes so the pedal is quite a bit firmer than it was, I’ve inspected the system For any brake fluid leaks and everything seems to be OK. I attempted to get an error code but didn’t have much luck. If you turn the key to the on position, the two lights will come on, but then they will cancel and go off. I’m kind of stumped , as to what it is. I also purchased original 1999 Ford workshop manuals three different volumes… Thanks in advance.
All of your trouble lights should go on when you turn the key on and then they should go off. If a light does not go on the bulb is burned out. If they stay on you have a problem. In '99 you could have either 2 wheel ABS or 4 wheel ABS, if I remember correctly. If you forget about the lights , do the brakes work properly?
Thanks, brakes feel fine. Feel even better since I bled them and yet with light brake pressure I can drive for hours no warning lights. If I need to slow down semi quickly with a firm brake pressure and both lights will come on until I turn the truck off. Then it will happen again...
UPDATE! I was able to get the error code, it would be DTC 4 which would narrow it down to the ABS valve itself I believe? Because it seems to be a problem related to the pedal pressure, I don't think it is a wiring problem...
NEW UPDATE! I think this is the part I need but.... These are discontinued and nobody has them? Are bone yards my only option at this point? THANKS!
