Hello all, I have a 2007 ford ranger sports model. Recently it has been taking 10 to 15 minutes for my ac to kick on and when it does its instantly cold as it should be. I had read online that this could potentially be the cause of a bad AC clutch solenoid/relay. I also read that the same part is used for the washer pump relay and that you could swap them to test this. I swapped them and turned my ac on and it is instantly cold but now there is a clicking/ticking noise coming from under the hood which happens at about 5 to 6 seconds apart at idle. Is this normal? The noise does not happen when I switch the relays back but then my ac won't kick on for 10 to 15 minutes. Attached are photos of the two relays I swapped. Unfortunately the video would not upload of the noise . Thank you in advance
I figure that click is either:
The fuse you swapped from the ac solenoid
The washer fluid pump from the possible faulty fuse that you swapped
A loose ac clutch plate
Having the fuses swapped. Does the tick occur when you idle with the fuse for the washer pump removed? I'm guessing the fuse may be bad.
Had the same issue on my truck, the clicking is the A/C clutch engaging and disengaging. Putting in a new relay fixed the A/C issue, as you have found by switching the relays.
