AC Stuck on "Defrost"... help...
 

Like the title says, my AC is stuck on defrost. I get full power and full cool/heat range so I figure it has to be the blend actuator... any other ideas? Thanks.

If your AC loses its vacuum source altogether, the vacuum operated doors default to the defrost position. Take a look at your vacuum lines and that spherical vacuum reservoir on the passenger side up behind the radiator.

Mine does the same thing.

It works and all, but you cant change it, its default on defrost..

Check the little black ball under the alternator, and check to see if the hoses are loose.

You lost the vacuum..

Ok, question. The lines from that ball thing are fine. Is it connected to the whole Vac system or is it its own stand alone system.

One hose gets vacuum from the intake manifold and the other one goes to the AC. A leak anywhere will make it inoperative. Look under the dash to see if any vacuum lines are dangling.

yes... even the smallest... A good test to use (an a/c test but im assuming it would work) is make a solution of soapy water. Turn on your car, then spray the lines with it...where ever the leak is, then it will start making bubles at that spot...

Won't work. A vacuum line sucks IN. No bubbles. The fluid will go in the line and that might not be the best idea either.

Usually you can hear it. Take out the radio, remove the center bezel, and listen inside the dash as you move the control. You should hear the vacuum motors cycling as you change settings for the type of heat/AC.

You may hear a hissing leak.

Any power brake problems? If not, it is almost definitely a vacuum problem from the black ball back to the heater controls through the firewall.

That's usually a test for a pressure leak. In the case of vacuum it would draw the soapy water into the engine and might not be too obvious where it's leaking anyway.

I had it all appart earlyer.. I didnt notice any sounds at all... I'm gonna grab a flashlight and go do a little more investigating... something may have come off while it was in the shop this week...

Or gotten pinched. Some of that tubing is small and pretty HARD. If it gets crimped, it STAYS crimped. Easy enough for it to get squished somewhere.

Well thanks everybody, I found it. But I bet its not what you guys were thinking. Check back in 15min's I'm gonna go snap a pic. Yes it was vacume related, but a real oddball...

Well here is the problem. The pictures are kinda crap but it helps. It was a distribution block behind the passanger side head light. It was easyer to find since I dont have a bumper on it. There was a little two prong plug that I found dangleing after following the the vacume line from the heater switch. Plug it in and it works.
