Just swap in an undamaged tilt column from a similar year truck. It would be easiest to get the column from a truck with the same transmission type or convert it with a bit more work. Be sure to get the ignition key from the donor to make it MUCH easier to swap the locks. Both vehicles should have their tires pointed straight ahead when disassembled - that would make the timing of the clockspring assembly correct.

I've got a tilt steering column. It's out of an 01 though I don't know if they changed it to 04 or not. I know the cruise control is different.

I think the steering wheels are different....would you be able to run the '01 column w/ the 04 wheel?? I would think you could.
