Automatic locking doors - anyone solve this riddle??
Did a search but only found 2 old dead ends. Wondering if one of you vets know how to do this?
I'm looking to find a way to have auto locking doors, such that when the truck is put into D etc. the doors will lock. I think that auto unlock isnt such a big deal because wont the doors open from the inside even if theyre locked if youre parked? Cant remember ...
Anyways I dont want to add an alarm system, Ive already got power locks, so is there some wiring that can be added to accomplish this? Aftermarket parts to do it like the alarm systems but for cheap $ and without the sirens and flashing lights would be nice.
Thanks!

I tried this and the programming seemed to work. I got the correct beeps and all... Unfortunately it still didn't work!
1. close all doors
2. with the key in off turn to run than off 3 times last one in the on position
3. press the unlock button three times
4. ign. to off
5. press the unlock button 3 more times
6. turn ign. to run
7. horn will chirp
8. unlock once to disable. If you want it too arm press lock
9. turn key off horn should chirp.
If this doesn't work then take it to a dealer for them to do it.

yea and keyless entry, but that gives me an idea of how to wire up a relay to make this work.
or something like this: http://rav4world.com/pdf/2006/auto_l...lation_4.3.pdf wired to the reverse light might work :)
EDIT: wow thats a fun procedure :)

here is what ive gathered:
going to use a SPST relay like this:
#86 - connect to backup light power (black/pink on my 2003 (?))
#85 - ground
#30 - connect to door LOCK switch (pink/yellow on my 2003 (?))
#87 - ground
not 100% on above wiring. possibly #87 should not be grounded but rather connected to a 12v constant or the backup light power. maybe #86 should be constant power.
however this is the wiring suggested in the link i found above (admittedly that was for a toyota).
anyways ill do some more researching, and i dont think ill blow up my truck if the wires arent correct on the first try, so i may just give it a go.

The problem with that it every time you come to a stop and start moving again the doors would re-lock them selves. I also don't know what the VSS produces for voltage so it might only lock once you reach/drop down to a certain speed.
Using the reverse light output would work, as you flip the reverse light switch by passing into D/OD. However it would be nice to have it lock as you move to Drive, and unlock as you select Park. Is there a wire on the newer transmissions that indicates the shifter in Park or Drive to the PCM? If so I imagine you could make a relay configuration to Lock in Reverse and Drive yet unlock in Park.

I don't think he's saying you NEED it to unlock, he's thinking the same thing I am... any time your speed drops below whatever the lock setting is wouldn't the truck want to unlock itself just due to wiring?? Of course maybe you have to wire it one way for locking and another for unlocking??

i think there are different door switch wires. a pink/light green for UNLOCK, and a pink/yellow for LOCK (colors subject to verification, year changes, etc. etc.).
that comment made me think though that when i park and shift from D to P, i will pass R again and the doors will lock again. okay but might get annoying.
