altenator size and reccomendations

Hey, I'm not really mechanically inclined, but I put 4 off-road lights on a rack I had for my truck. It's a 2002 Ranger XLT, and I was just kinda curious to how my stock altenator would hold up to these. My whole family tells me that I'm going to need a high-output altenator, and probably a new battery so that it doesn't die. So if you guys could point me in the right direction, that's be awesome.

Are you running a high powered audio system?

There is about 30-40 amps of extra capacity on the stock system. You should be fine if your not running subs.

Just don't leave them on with the truck not running. This draw can kill a weak battery in a few minutes. If you are in need of a new battery, I say get a optima or other gell cell battery.

When the lights are on you may need to do some load management if you notice they dim or other lights on the truck dim.

Thanks

No I don't have anything highpowered as far as audio is concerned, I have a bass tube I was thinking about putting in, but I don't know yet. Thanks for the advice. I live in Maine by the way, do you think that the EXTREMELY COLD winters will have any effect? haha

Get yourself a Yellow top (or comparable) and do the big 3 mod. That will help a lot. If you notice your lights dim at night while the windows go down or up at night, you'd want a higher power Alt.
