Alternator Went Out Today
I was driving along today and things just were not going right.
For the past 11 months or so my Check Engine Light has been on and my Truck bogs down around 3500 RPMs.
I've had the codes read, the alternators checked, cannot figure it out.
Well the Alt went out completely today. Got a good rebuilt one for $90 with warranty. Easy change out, drove around town works great. First time I've hit 5500 RPM's in almost a year.
Best thing yet, Check Engine light went away after about 20 miles.

buy one of those hand held OBDII code scanners for like $80 or cheaper on ebay. I bought a small OBDI scanner for like $40 on ebay and it works great. Helped me find a few things and some things dont throw a CEL like when my Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor went.
I had mine checked by my father in law, Autozone, and Advance on numerous occasions since it came on.
It was a Lean Bank 2, Lean Bank 4 code.
I replaced spark plugs, wires, coil pack, cleaned the MAF. Asked around for advice on G-E.info and talked to my dealer. Nothing seemed to work. I don't have the money floating around to take it to my dealer and let them spend 2 days and $500 hoping to find the problem and then fix it. I understand what you are saying, this is my baby, but I'm to the point that I'm not going to invest over a $1000 into the truck at this point. I'll get a new ride at that point.
