Anything higher than the stock 55 watt, and you run the risk of cooking your wires. You also have to worry about the headlight relays, they're only rated for so much current.
As far as being street legal, I question the legality of a bulb with more than twice the wattage of a stock bulb.

Anything with a higher than normal wattage on the stock headlight circuit is risky. 65 watts is the stock high beam. Some people have no problems but there are an equal number of people who have melted their wire harness. I wouldn't do it.
where can i buy an upgraded wire harness?
http://www.piaa.com/Bulbs/Bulbs-9000.html
there the star ones with 55/65= 100/120w lights so there still at the 55limmit, and they soposto have a resister in them to protect the harness, i just talked to the guy i get my parts from and i getting for 60$ so not bad.
i have tried the silver stars and i didnt really like them but they work awesom in my gf honda, but they dont light up good in the rain, so we will see how these do, but i till wana know where to get the haeness
thanx guys

I would recommend upgrading the harness even if using the stock bulbs. The stock wires not suffecient to get the full power of even the stock bulbs. I noticed a slight difference in my stock bulbs by just installing the upgraded harness. Now I am using the piaa extreme white plus bulbs and they are very nice. I did try a set of the luks 80/100 watt bulbs for a while, but even though the harness/sockets worked fine and never got warm, the luks bulbs are just garbage and do not last very long at all. The upgraded harness is very easy to install and is available at www.suvlights.com
yes upgrade your harness they sell them at summit racing thas what I had to get to make mine a lil brighter and to be safe mine are the Nokya Stage IIs ppl always ask where I got them I'll go get a pic of the difference....
i jusr got the piaa starlights and i ordered the piaa extreme white plus, i had them in my old ranger also and i getting them for 60$ and i going to be ordering the diamond cut lenzes on ebay and the harnesses, thanx guys

The stock harness isn't even enough to support the stock bulb and get the full potential out of them, let alone any aftermarket bulb. No need to add lights, just do the upgraded harness to make what you have work at it's full potential. If you choose to upgrades bulbs in the future, you harness will be ready. The factory setup just doesn't cut it.
