Bad voltage regulator?

I have a 89 2.3 ranger which started acting funny this morning. The truck started right up with no signs of a bad battery. Once driving I noticed my clock was wrong and I lost my radio presets. I checked my volt gauge and it was jumping between the normal mark and high. My headlights were also flickering slightly.

Does this sound like a voltage regulator or alternator problem?

Thanks!

Could be the voltage regulator, alternator, loose connection (power or ground), etc. Did the trucks engine start cutting out or running rough?

The truck ran fine starting idling and running. Just strange electronic problems in relation to the charging system.

I'd go over all connections ensuring there tight and looking for signs of corrosion at the battery and alternator. Pull the voltage regulators connector and ensure its in good condition and re-connect. Check the regulators mounting bolts. Check the ground strap to the chassis and engine block. Ground connections at fenders, rocker panels, etc.

If these check out ok, you might want to stop by one of the local auto parts and see if they can test the charging system for you.
