Bama chip/tuner MPG ?

I was wondering those with bama(or other brand) tuners/chips I know a lot of people claim better gas mileage with the tuner over no tuner. Well how much better(say 87 octane program vs non tuner) ? Also do you get better milage running a 93 octane program over a 87 octane program ? Does it mathimaticly make sense to pay the extra money for 93 over 87 ?

I ran 87 performance to Chicago and it was about 17.8 MPG, got about 290 out of the tank and was between empty and 1/4. I ran 85-90 to work two days and 70mph home on the 93 tune and still got 16.5 mpg. To me I like the 93 tune better as there is better power to me. As far as the mileage on the 93 I will tell ya after I take a ride to Zachs house in Indiana this next week. Really havent got to test the reall mileage on 93 for just highway. If I run 70 with the cruise on I am over 17 on the 93 going back and forth to work but some of that is city. I would expect to see over 18 mpg with 93 and all highway.

i just reread your post and i get 20 with the 87 tune so thats a 10% differenct so when gas is over 2 bucks a gallon and its 20 cents difference yes it is cheaper to get the 93

gas here tonight was

2.19 for 87
2.39 for 93
10% of 2.19 is 0.219
price difference is 1 cent

plus don't forget about the extra power

I got over 18mpg all highway with the lift, 33s, 93 octane, and exhaust. I was getting somewhere around 17 before that.

i think it evens out with the use of 93.

when i use 93 i get just enough better mpg to justify paying for the 93, which is fine for me as i like the added performance.

Stock I was seeing 16-17 mpg with the 33's on. With the tuner I'm getting 18.25mpg right now with the 89 program. I was getting less mileage with the 87 program, most likely because I was making up for the power I wanted by pushing down on the gas. I'm not sure of what the mpg is like with the 91 octane because I play around too much when I use that program.

Ever do any dirt racing ? I spent a couple months dirt racing back in the day. The same team had an import drag car I got into later on.

I have to run Premium in my Cadillac and my Impala. The one thing I love is If you look hard enough 93 octane will be only ten cents a gallon over the regualr gas. no matter what the price of gas is, it is going to cost you $2.00 on a 20 gallon tank of gas. no big deal in my opinion. I get people all the time when gas prices are up and can't believe that I still put premium in the cars. but the price of gas makes no difference to me whether I am going to run premium or not. Just how much useless driving I am going to do. I run premium in everything as in this state premium doesn't have ethanol and I refuse to put ethanol in my truck as it wrecks gas mileage. I get a steady 18 MPG and I get about 15-16 with 87 with ten percent ethanol. I have a buddy that has a taurus with the e-85 motor. He ran it a few times with e-85 and only got 11 mpg. It reqires more ethanol to get the same energy than it does straight gasoline. he gets 30 with regular gasoline. So unless the government subsidized price is 1/3 the price of regualar it is a useless thing to have. He bought it when gas went up to 1.99 in 01 and thought it was the end of the world.
