Icon6 Help Questions about Gauge Cluster

If I replace the whole cluster does it have to be with one out of the same truck (same motor and trans ) for it to work properly or just matching yrs ? I have a 1996 2.3L standard reg. cab short bed. Gas gauge and odometer does not work was just going to replace it with one from junk yard. Checked resistance at sending unit for gas gauge and its seems good changes as float moves up and down. Speedo works just odometer or trip not working. Any info would be helpfull. Thanks.

it doesnt matter. your odometer isnt working due to a small plastic gear inside that is known for breaking. i dont know when ford switched to the nylon gear but it solved the problem of the odometer to stop working.

if i am correct, you probably dont have a tach so try to grab one with. its plug and play.
