check engine light but this 1's new

Ok i give up. engine light came on no big deal it seems to happen to all rangers. So I took it to advance auto and they pulled the code and tell me that it reads multi-cylinder misfire.?????? $$$$$$ ??????.Now this is a 96 ranger 4cyl. auto . So I have changed the plugs wires 2 coils pcv valve checked the egr valve. Now I ask for all your help please

jtslmn720 07-12-2007 07:29 PM

are your wires on correctly?

annoyed 07-12-2007 07:48 PM

yes.but the light was on before the wire change.By the way the truck runs ok but hesitates some times when leaving the light.

clear the codes and drive it for a while . if it comes back on then have the codes pulled again.

did you notice any change after doing the tune up?

OTRtech 07-13-2007 03:43 AM

Has the timimg belt ever been changed?

annoyed 07-13-2007 05:18 AM

I did clear the codes and it comes back on in about a week.As for as the timing belt I do not think that has been changed. But that is coming soon because it has 96k on it

malydeen 07-14-2007 12:28 AM

I have the same exact problem with my mom's 1997 Saturn SL2. I have done all the same stuff that you have and i have adjusted the timing and it doesn't seem to do anything.

Maybe is a conspiracy by the auto makers to get you to spend more money on your vehicle...... ;-)

annoyed 07-14-2007 02:57 PM

maybe...or now we know what happed to the left over part's to the ford ranger ??????????????

Danny818 07-14-2007 03:03 PM

i would say check spark plugs. For some reason my truck came out of the factory with the wrong size gaps on the driver's side. Like you said, my truck also hesitated. Check plugs and gaps.

annoyed 07-15-2007 03:32 PM

I just put new autolite plugs in and checked the gap on the them before each hole. but thank's.

Blhde 07-15-2007 03:53 PM

o2's are only good for about 80k or so. After that the are not as sensitive/efficient.

Its a good idea to change them the same time you do plugs.

Right, and this time get the code number(s) yourself and post them.

annoyed 07-15-2007 07:47 PM

Thank's I was going to get the 02's tomorrow . That's been in my head since this crap started.but keep coming up with idea's. Because another idea had something to do with a match.

Rockledge 07-16-2007 05:13 AM

FWIW, the odds of a failing 02 sensor causing a misfire are pretty much nil.

annoyed 07-16-2007 10:59 AM

I know but I need them anyway. But I think I'm going to look at the timing belt it seem like a good idea.Or until some one says they had the seam problem and fixed it.
