Clicking noise while coasting at low speeds

Hey there,
I have a 2001 Ranger 2wd w/manual transmission and when I'm coasting at low speeds in neutral I noticed there is a ticking/clicking noise coming from under the vehicle. If i disengage the clutch the noise is still there. I'm guessing it's coming from something behind the transmission. Maybe a u-joint or the rear-end. Any ideas? Thanks!

ChecK for something simple like rocks in ur tread, which will make a clicking noise during low speed coasting. Prolly not something so easy, but it wouldn't hurt to check before u go tearing into the truck!

Did you solve the problem? I'm having the same issue.
It almost sounds like a wet shoe on a gym floor creaking. I'm thinking it might be rear bearings.
With the window down driving in town so it can echo off of the buildings, the noise slows to a clicking just before the truck stops moving.
Neutral or breaking doesn't make a difference and it goes away when I accelerate. It's only there when I'm coasting or at speed.

Solution

Turned out to be loose wheel nuts.]

I did my breaks a few weeks earlier and used an impact to take the nuts off, and I thought I used the impact to put them back on, but they were not tight enough.
