I dont know what the deal is, but I JUST bought ANOTHER set of Silverstar Ultra 9005's for my fogs and within 3 weeks the passenger blew AGAIN! This is like the 3rd set Ive went through in 6 months and Im getting tired of it! Im honestly thinking about undoing the foglight mod and go back to the $5 headlight bulbs because I cant afford these stupid bulbs anymore! Anyone else having this problem?

Idk but if they are then they owe me alot of money..........

 

I've seen people report this problem. But... I've used them on 4 different cars and have only ever had one blow out on me.


I very throughly wipe them down with cotton and rubbing alcohol. Then make sure not to touch the glass on *anything* once they have been cleaned.

When I do that.. I've no problems in years of using them. (except for the one)

Me personally....I had them in my ranger...them put them in my parent Lincoln Continental, I have the Ultras in my subaru, Ultras in my parents Escort, and Ultras in my chevy(H4 conversion lamps)........all have been in the rigs at least a year...no problems. Are you sure you not touching the glass?? Oils from fingers + heat of the buls = dead bulb.

 

try to make a splash shield for the back of the fog lights, see it that helps

I know alot of guys have burned out fog light bulbs because of water splashing on the backside

As I mentioned here :

You need to get yourself the proper 9145 fog light bulbs. the 9005's need a little lovin' to get into the hole, and because of this, it doesn't make a tight seal. I hear your frustration though, buying a new bulb every couple months is a PITA and expensive. I've had my 9007's (headlights) for over two years now and haven't needed to replace any yet *knocks on wood*.

 

I had a fog light go out, replaced it, and broke again. It had a bad seal so water was getting in. I had to buy another fog light. A few months later the other side did the same thing, Now I have two new fog lights and now more problems.

 

Try putting a small bead of dielectric grease all the way around the base on top of the o-ring and put some in the electrical connection to. That should help seal them.

 

Thanx for the insight guys, I hit a deer last winter; everything below my hood got replaced. That may be so. Im thinking about maybe trying my extra set of 9145 stockers for a while AFTER I try to check and seal behind my foglight because after all, it is winter, it could get wet easily. How hard are these to replace? I'm a newbie to Ford but bought an 06 Ranger yesterday and didn't notice the fog lights were out until I got it home and it got dark. I know I should have checked it over better now but how do I just replace the bulbs? I also have one out on my bumper for the plate.
