Do Optima Batteries really do anything special?
Since I've got two air compressors running at a variety of times, and plan on adding a 10" sub, would a yellow top and a 130A alternator be fine? I've got a stock 2002 3.0L. My stock battery is about to die soon.
Read the information that Optima has on their website about using deep cycle ("yellow top") batteries as starting batteries. Then make your decision. Their deep cycles are actually a hybrid between a starting battery and a traditional deep cycle in terms of the plates.
On a 3.0, it should be okay as long as you size it (in terms of capacity) larger than normally would be used. Since Optima's are pretty small physically, you should be able to fit a high-capacity deep cycle in the truck.
