Eletronic 4x4 issues

I just bought another ranger on the cheap and the 4x4 does not work. When you first start the truck you can hear a clicking in the dash and then a few seconds after it stops clicking and then the 4lo and 4high lights flash 6 times periodically while driving there after. Any guesses as to where I can look to resolve this issue?

What year? There are different setups for different years. Check the shift motor on the tcase first. They were prone to failure on the older models. If it is the one with external automatic locking hubs (93-94, maybe more years) they suck too. I had to replace both hubs and shift motor. Hope this helps!

pull out the 4x4 motor on the tcase and clean it they get pretty dirty over time and if that doesnt work most likey it will have to be replaced or that has been my experience

it's a 99' ranger. I'll have to look at that this weekend when I work on all the other problems. Besides that motor what else could cause those lights to blink?

ok, 99 has the IFS with vaccum actuated internal hubs, so don't worry about what i said about the hubs above.

As far as the problem, start with the shift motor. Make sure it is good. That is where most of the problems with the T/C arise

flashing lights means check the fuse for the system. Its under the hood. Mine does the same thing but one of the many modules that controls the 4x4 is broken. This issue can get expensive quick if its a module

Took me quite a while to find that out, Oddly enough it was on the ranger station lol. Usually their info stops at the end of TTB trucks

3 I believe. The GEM module is one of them. What I was told was that if those modules go and you dont absolutely need 4x4 its not worth it

Well I dont know but modules are never cheap. I could junkyard it but then I was told they are a little more specific than just any ranger one. So I did a manual T case swap instead
