f150 4.6 triton v8 or 4.0 sohc?

was having a few drinks with my buddy who just picked up a 1998 RWD F150 with the 4.6 TRITON V8 with an exhaust and intake and he was pretty sure that his truck would smoke my 2007 RWD ranger 4.0 sport with K&N and magnaflow catback. both trucks are automatic but he has 250 k while i only have 50 k.

i dont go around racing my truck against people so i guess my question is would i beat him?

all stock F-150's (Save lightning's and other special trucks) are slow. I Can't remember what the 0-60 times were when the 2004 Body came out with the 5.4 but it was embarassing (I seem to recall low 10 second range). I bought my 2004 Level II the same week my Buddy bought a 2004 FX4 F-150 and we lined up once in the parking lot of his business and it was no contest. I think I could take it with my cadillac! LOL The 150 is a great truck but fast it is not.

3.55's might hurt you down low. but those things aren't monsters by any means lol.

with 3.73's and stock 255's i took the f150 i talked about before. and it was an fx4 so im sure had better gearing.

either way, you should do work.

I bet even with 3.55's you'll take him, especially since you probably have smallish tires.
The F150 is a lot heavier and a high mileage 4.6L isn't anything to rave about. Although let me know how your SOHC and 5r55e hold up after that many miles on it.

Are you drag racing? If you are then you got the worst factory gearing for a ranger for that. Taller Gears = faster acceleration, and especially true with fords over head cam engines. The first thing I would do with any OHC engine ford makes if I wanted it to be peppier from a dead start would be upgrade the rear gears. Example: A 2003-04 Marauder can't match a 1996 Impala SS in the quarter mile stock. Well ford put 3:55's in it to meet emissions requirements (impala ss's got 3:08's) but with a change to 4:10's now the car is a competitor. That being said you will still whoop his ***.

The 04+ F150 gained a lot of weight for sure, but it is a solid truck, rides great and is plenty strong. No doubt about it, it's not built for speed. A tinny tundra with the 5.7 or whatever could take a comparable F150 any day, but I would much rather have the F150.
On another note, you will see a huge difference after you get a tuner with a 92 or 93 octane tune on the F150 5.4L, night and day difference.

i call BS too. I raced a similiar truck down an onramp one time when i was on my old 33" xterrains. my front bumper was at his rear bumper by 60 mph and he was still pulling when i let off.

they're quick. i was tuned as well.

Yeah the 150s are tuned for more down low torque power from the factory, they're not that quick at all. A programmer opens it up a lot though

edit: meant to quote the other line that said bs

He probably just thought that someone tried to race him at a stop light. People do that here all the time too.
If I'm driving the subie I'll pull away somewhat fast and smoothly level out at 60-65mph. Usually after I stop accelerating some tool with a horrible sounding rusted off exhaust will pass me at 70-80mph staring at me in his mirror like he just beat me. lol

Anyhow, I think a lot of people would be surprised what a 4.0 SOHC can do when it is geared properly. So many people throw on huge tires and leave the truck under-geared and tell everyone it is "fine". My guess is that those people have never re-geared a truck. My sport track was over-geared a bit with 4.88's and 33's, but I could smoke most everyone off the line at a light with them and a rear locker. Only mods were gears, locker, tires and tuner. I even played with a couple of built super duty diesels and took them until about 45-50mph before their monster torque over came their weight.

howwwww about you go to the track and race?

this dumb arguing ins't going anywhere.. tons of people can't drive anyways, so saying i beat this guy, or he beat me isn't very good "proof"

how about yall hook up to a couple thousand pound trailer and see who wins then haha

I want a sticker that says, "Just because it can, don't mean it will." I get sick and tired of the young 4 banger kids in my town trying to take the 4.0. They just don't realize I'm too old to give a sh*t red light to red light. I'd rather look good at 55, than as broke down yard art.

This has already been covered in one of my threads. This WAS at a track, as you can obviously see, And yes, it was a 1500, with exhaust, a programmer, and intake.

Yeah My 4.0 SOHC and 4.10l/s gear beat people all the time. When i first test drove my truck i was used to a 3.0 5speed and yeah man o man did i like how i can actually get up and go when i want to.

btw that video makes me want to go see what i can do in a 1/4 just for $H!Ts and Giggles and to waste some tires doing a burn out
