ok so ive been looking for a foglight mod everywhere, but they were only for the 02+ rangers. i have the 1998. i need to see how i could do this mod for the 98. it would be great thanks!

 

 

I wrote up a foglamp mod based on the information in the Ford factory wiring manuals. Later I found conflicting info in the 98~2000 owners manuals. Since I don't have a truck here from that era, I can't determine which is correct.

 

what would you need to see on the 98-00 rangers bob?

 

I need to either do the mod on both a 1998 and 1999~2000 truck (may be different) or find a couple of lab rats willing to try it. Remember that I have nothing to go by but Ford's books so it would be at the rats' risk!

well, i have the wiring diagram for the 95-99 ranger if you want me to scan it and you can figure it out. fair enough?

 

I have the diagram, too, but the diagram in the factory wiring manual does not match the information about the foglamp relays in the owners manuals. That means that I don't know which is correct.

 

ah i see. dang. well, my dad thought to try unhooking the wire going to the fuse and the one going to the lights and putting those two together. i was thinking of changing the wire coming from the relay to the fuse and putting that fuse into a different socket.

i dunno really.

I think it MIGHT work on a 98 because the two Ford books do not contradict each other for that year only among trucks from your generation. Since he has a 98, I'd like to try it on BlackJack's truck first. PM me for instructions if you're interested. I don't want to publish this on the open forum yet.

We have had success with the mod on a 2000 Ranger using the ultra simple bent pin method. I suspect that the 1999 is the same but I do not have confirmation yet.

The mod is very similar to the well established 2001~2003 mod. The only difference is that the layout of the fuse/relay/distribution box under the hood is a little different.

If you have the foglamp isolation relay #10 shown in your owners manual, it will probably work. Online Owners Manuals
It should be the relay in the rear of the distribution box closest to the driverside fender.

Bend the same pin in the same way as shown on this 2003 relay:

Yes, it has already been done on a 2000 and it works.

The relay? I don't know but you can usually bend the pin back once if you find it necessary to reverse the mod.

 

Ok, because im sure it wont pass inspection, i was just worried about the metal getting weak if i go bending it back.

If you bend it a few times, I'm sure it will break. Once should be OK though.
