Fuel Cutoff switch hot wires! need help ASAP
I was driving down the freeway and my truck just shut down. knowing that I have been having issues with the cutoff switch I reached down and tried to wiggle the connection and the wires going into the cutoff were hot. they had melted the electrical tape around them (it was turned to goo) and no matter how much I played with them, I couldnt get the fuel pump to come on.
I am really in a bind. my mind is kind of clouded right now so I am not sure if this is something I can just cut the wires on and twist them together to get them going, or if there is something else I'd have to do. They are already letting people go at my office and today is another day off the paycheck for me and another mark on my record for missing a day. If anyone can give me a tip so I can get into work tonight I'd be greatful in the most major way. :headache: |
I think they are $30 or so. Try to borrow some money for one if you are low on cash.
|
Its still going to have issues. I'd like to know if (so I can get home) crossing the wires is going to work. from there I'd maybe wire in a better design of the impact safety switch from another vehicle and remount it
|
wired getting hot, anything that they are connected to that might cause that?
|
ok, new switch installed, same problem, wires heat up, I hear the fuel pump whine and nothing.
The wires going to the fuel cutoff switch just roast. but I hear the whine of the fuel pump |
the fuel pump turns on, I go and push the schrader valve down and get a small jet of fuel then it dies off to nothing. Could my pump have died or do I have a relay that might have gone bad
|
or shall I beat myself for not replacing the fuel filter like I have been meaning to for the last 10k miles.
*smacks head on desk* Opened my glove box to grab a wireing diag and there was my shiny new fuel filter that I had not replaced. DOH! put it on and truck started right up! |
I'm glad you figured it out man. I would have helped more but I'm not sure how that system is wired up.
|
spoke to soon. back to the same issue again. no start what so ever.
|
Maybe you have a weak pump? It shouldn't be doing this so early in its like.
Do you go offroading at all? Low gas and hard offroading will destroy the pump. |
I think thats what it might be. I am going to snag a fuel pressure tester now and check the reading. then again I may have flooded the thing too. there was alot of fuel on the inlet side of the filter and the output side of the filter was empty. that thing was clogged beyond belief

my brothers 04 did that all i did was take to two wires that go into it and splice them together and it worked
|
my truck seems to go down in a combination of things
First was an issue with charging. first the alternator went bad tested it was toast, then the battery had a dead cell (battery ate the alternator) then there was the tires. I replaced them and the brake pads sheered off in the front. this was the fuel cutoff switch, the fuel filter and plugs were gone. I killed them, likely from a major lean run issue. I suspect cats, O2 and IAC are gunna be the next combo then combo breaker will be the MAF sensor! |
