Fuel Filler Hose Replacement Help
Fuel Filler Hose Replacement Help
Hello all,
I bought a 1993 Ranger 3.0 2WD XLT yesterday with the 5spd trans. It runs and drives, and has very little rust (practically rust free, has surface rust in spots). It made a 2 hour drive home no problem and I’ve used it around town once or twice. I decided to fill up the gas today since it was around just under a quarter tank. It filled up fine until it started getting closer to full, when it started leaking pretty bad under the truck. Once it stopped pumping the leak stopped shortly after. It doesn’t leak fuel when sitting or driving. The driver side of the tank appeared to be the only wet part. This led me to believe that it’s the fuel filler hose. So my question is A.) does that sound like the issue here? And B.) If I were to go about fixing that, is it easier to drop the tank or remove the bed? Sorry if this is the wrong spot to post this, this is my first post on this forum.

If it is not leaking when it's full I would bet on the filler neck (the part the fuel nozzle goes into). It can rust thru and cause an evap leak and or fuel leak. If that is it the replacement is easy. The filler hose could also be the culprit for sure. If it helps. I ordered from this site when I replaced mine...

Had this issue on my '97 4.0, yes it's the filler neck. Happened exactly how you described it. Bought mine off rockauto and it fit just right
I found it easier to remove the bed. Be sure to get some Kroil/PB Blaster on those bolts, they can be a mother to get off
Unbolt the filler neck and disconnect the brake/license plate lights before moving the bed. Have a friend help. It's not that heavy, just unwieldy
There might be videos out there on it but I figured it out without too much trouble
