Fuel Filler neck.

For some reason whenever i'm at the pump the fuel likes to back up and spill all over the ground. I thought my breather hose was clogged so I removed it and it pretty much turn to dust. Napa wants $160 for a new neck and Ford wants $345.00. I told them to their face they are F&%$#@! nuts for a foot long tube of metal.. So where can I get one that won't cost so much besides a JY?

04RangerDave 02-13-2012 02:00 PM

is your filler neck all metal or metal then rubber hose?
Mine is metal then the lines to the tank are rubber.

I use it as an excuse for a free car wash everytime I go to Kwik Trip.

Ranger4.0XLT 02-13-2012 02:23 PM

I just called Napa and they said they only had one for a standard cab 112 wheelbase. Does the wheel base really matter?

StxDangerRanger 02-13-2012 04:14 PM

I don't think the wheel base matters. Bed sides have always been the same.

Scrambler82 02-13-2012 04:23 PM

Longer tank in longer wheelbase so maybe the filler mounting is in a different location.

The vent is part of the filler !

Tasca has the filler/Vent for either the 112 or the 118 WB for around $100 plus shipping.

legoms013 02-13-2012 04:34 PM

You can get cheapie ones off ebays alotta times.

mylifted97 02-14-2012 09:00 AM

I have had the same issue. Only when its full though

Scrambler82 02-14-2012 09:36 AM

Filler tubes are known to go bad, crack and leak.

Ranger4.0XLT 02-15-2012 07:56 PM

Just so everyone knows.. wheel base doesn't matter and neither does single cab over supercab. mine fit perfectly.

Ford04Ranger4.0 02-15-2012 08:20 PM

Glad to know got any pics of your old one?

If this is true, there are so many parts stores ill informed and online ones that are just as confusing. This is the only place I have seen the quoted statement. So I am looking for others that have experienced this issue to confirm the above statement.

Some online sites list super cab filler necks with a different part number and price than a standard cab Tasca being one of them.

Others only list the neck for 112" and 118" wheel base.

Mine has a 126" WB, extended cab, with styleside 6' bed. I cannot find a part store that lists a part with those options. LMC is the only one I have found that lists one single part regardless of wheel base or cab size.

Any help in getting to the bottom of the quandary? I want to believe that the wheelbase and cab size doesn't matter, but I don't want to spend $100+ and tear it apart just to find out I got the wrong part....

Thanks in advance.

I purchased mine from Napa Auto parts.. they only had one listed and were able to get it to me next day. I told myself what's the worst that can happen, so I had them get it for me. It was listed for a single cab and a smaller wheelbase, I have no idea why. When I searched online I found at least 5 different ones.. it is confusing. The only difference I can see may be year, or fleetside over stepside. I was worried it wouldn't fit either but mine works great and as you can see from the pics there is no difference (besides that mine was rotten..)

Thank you for the follow up and additional information, very much appreciated. I reply back with how mine goes.

Damn. On my truck when I fuel up, if I go full bore with the fuel nozzle, and lock it on full, it clicks off, like as if there is a full tank, but when its empty. Every single time it does this to me, ever since I filled my tank with a portable 5 gallon can once. Any ideas?

My truck does this exact same thing at certain gas stations

Purchased mine from partsgeek.com. They had a couple listed, but all were described as being for a single cab and 112" wheelbase.

No problem, installed easily. Was surprised I didn't have any problems with the hose clamps either.

Thanks again for your assitance!

Ranger4.0XLT 04-14-2012 09:14 PM

glad to hear it worked out.

Hello, found this forum & thread on the net. So I decided to join. I personally don't own a Ranger
but noticed the same problem on my Father's `01 Ranger 4x4 Supercab.
Thanks to Ranger4.OXLT for letting in that the wheel base doesn't matter.

With some searching I found this site that sells Filler Necks & here is 1 that I believe will work for my Fathers ranger.

2001-2003 Ford Ranger Fuel Filler Neck (STANDARD BED, EX CAB) | Filler Neck Supply Co.

Just wanted to pass this on.
The pic shows where my Dad's leak is from. His mechanic just put new clamps on said the same thing,
need a factory replacement for the Supercab.

RANGER99sport 11-26-2014 05:23 PM

I just bought one for the wife's Explorer ('02) from RockAuto for $145, AutoZone wanted $262. I'll happily wait the week to get it.
Two metal tubes, one rubber hose and clamps.

napabandit 11-26-2014 05:30 PM

I have to replace mine every 2 years. They rot out fast with the alcohol in the fuel in California. My wife's truck was the same way. I can do it myself in about 15 minutes now.

I just wanted to say thanks for this thread. I have a 2000 supercab 3.0 and all the parts places were only listing filler necks for the shorter wheelbase. After reading this thread I took a chance and ordered one and it was a perfect match.
