Gas Cap light wont go out?

okay so I just got back from California. while I was away, I left my truck with a buddy, Tom, who has taken care of her before while I was away. He's fallen on a bit of hard times and needed a truck to move his boat he was trying to sell, and I needed someone to watch my truck(my roommates are *********, plus neither can drive a standard). Well i called him up and said the truck was in front of his house and he "hadn't started it up in about a week". well I go to pick up the truck with my roommate and the first thing I notice is the low fuel and gas cap lights are on. So I fuel it up assuming the cap just wasnt tight and the tank maybe needed to build some pressure in it or something. But its now tuesday afternoon and I've been doing a lot of driving this week, yet the cap light still isnt out.

What could cause this? Did Tom run it all the way out of gas and was afraid to say something? what can I do to fix it?

Aforementioned friend also borrowed 2 crescent wrenches, 1 needle-nose pliers, and 1 vise-grip pliers from my toolbox and somehow misplaced them. Because he says he doesn't remember borrowing any tools. I know they were in there, because thats where they belong and I had just don't a complete 'spring clean' of my truck: Inside, Outside, toolbox....it looked like a brand new truck.

anyways I'm bummed...gotta get new tools and some new friends apparently. good news is I just had my new bfgs installed on saturday...so maybe ill throw some pics up in a bit.

that sucks about the friend. doesn't sound like "borrowing" to me. good luck with your new tools though.

Do a visual on the fill pipe and gas cap. Someone may have tried to steal the gas. If you don't see any obvious problems, try installing a new gas cap and disconnecting the battery for about 5 -10 minutes.

Yup, new cap or your hose has a small enough hole that alows vacuum and air to escape but not let gas leak.

I would put my monies on the cap though.
