Just picked up (yesterday) a 2000 Ranger XLT Super Cab 4.0 5spd. It's AWESOME to be back in a Ranger again! My only issue with the car is that it's instrument gauge cluster lacks a tachometer (funny how they leave that bit off of MANUAL shifting cars...). I've seen a few instrument clusters for sale, but am curious as to how difficult it would be to swap from one to anoter. My dash is pretty much analog even the odometer and trip meter. Anyone got any advice or thought? Thanks greatly in advance.

getting the cluster out is ALOT easier than you think. takes about 10 minutes. i can have mine apart and put back together in about 18 minutes (to change a bulb)

None. A stock cluster with tach is plug and play on a 2000. It would be best to stick with a cluster from a 2000 or maybe one or two years earlier. If not, some of the idiot lights will be wired to the wrong functions. Definitely stay away from 2004+ clusters - they will not work at all.

 

Thanks for the advice, Bob! By the way, I love your explorer wheel (hvac/radio/etc...) swap job! That looks awesome. Now if I can keep Dad's attention averted for a few minutes.... :)

ah same deal with me, I just picked up a 97 cluster with tach to replace mine since I dont have a tach. Cant wait lol :)
