Headlight upgrade ?

Headlight upgrade ?
So we have two fords in the family, an '02 focus and a 98 ranger. Since these are the daily drivers I'm looking at headlight upgrades, since we'll be going to work in the dark starting in a couple of months. The Ranger is giving me trouble though.
I'd like to do HID's and projector housings for the ranger, but I can't seem to tell/find a spec sheet from any of the common dealers that actually says how high/low beams work. We drive in deer country and NEED high beams, but most of the housings seem to have a single projector, some look like they might have an incandescent reflector low beam and a high beam projector but I can't confirm.
Anyone managed to put hi/low HID's on a ranger without having to deal with solenoids (I hear a lot of failure complaints on those)? Is there an LED option like the truck-lites popular with jeeps and other vehicles that would work instead?
Thanks for the advice,
Curtis

Those projector headlights state they are made for use with halogen lights. That means they have a 9007 socket most likely which is the factory dual filament bulb size.
If you went with a 9007 socket HID you would have to select the "bi-xenon" or a "hi/lo" kit.
Bi-xenon is a single HID bulb in a 9007 socket with a solenoid attached ot the bulb base. When you trigger the high beams the bulb moves either forward or backwards in the base to change the focal point of the light (adjusts it higher).
The hi/low kit has both an HID bulb and halogen bulb in the same socket (weird I know). The hid is your low beam and the halogen is the high beam.
Aftermarket pre-assembled headlight assemblies with projectors are usually crap.
Best results would be a projector retrofit to an existing reflector headlight. Only issue is that the OEM headlight 98-00 has "prisms" in the lens. You would have to buy a set of clear lens headlights to tear open.
You can add a projector, D2S Hid bulb, and a 35W ballast and will have the best results. Seen guides on the internet just search around for ranger projector retrofit.
