glovebox heater
 

Hey all. I dont know too much about this kind of stuff so was helping someone has some insight. What im looking to make is some kind of heater to keep in my glovebox to keep a small flask of liquid between 90 and 100 degrees F.

I would put it on a switch so it wouldnt be on all the time, just for a few hours at a time while my truck is turned off. 8 hours at the most. i dont think this would be an issue for the battery.

Basically i want some kind of heating pad that wraps around the flask that i can wire into an always hot 12v source. It would need some kind of rheostat so that i could set it to hold the correct temperature. I have experience with wiring and am not afraid of it, just have no experience with any kind of heating like this. I dont see any reason why it shouldnt be easy to do.

Hope someone can chime in on a safe way to do this so that i dont burn my truck to the ground, lol

What are you trying to keep heated?

Glovebox is plastic. It will melt. Chrysler had a recall on seat heaters from people using them all the time and drying the leather out. They ended up causing fires.

I see the same thing happening.

you could splice into a cigarette lighter harness then run back to your switch. i'd just make sure there's alot of insulation between your heater pack and the glovebox.

He was giving a example about something that could happen

They caught on fire because of people thinking it was wise to leave them on for hours on end, like his idea of 8 hours. I'm using an example of what can happen, its a damn good one too.

retarded! get one of those coolers/warm boxes that you can plug into you 12v. and 8hours not an issue for your battery? HAHA that will kill your battery and quickly the current draw will be too high. get a remote start, take the flask put it in ur back pocket or take in inside. all much better solutions. or pay a fat chick to sit on it and keep it warm(sorry been listeing to too much ICP)

8hr constant draw will certainly take it's toll on the battery..

What you want to do will kill your battery long before 8 hours is up.

yeah, i was probably wrong on the battery part. that baby bottle warmer is pretty much exactly what i am looking for, just want to make it myself.

i dont see the melting of the glovebox being an issue though. insulation would do the trick. 90 degrees isnt that hot. if that would melt my glovebox the entire interrior of my truck would be long gone by now.

and the wizzonator isnt what i need, lol

i am definitely weary of the whole burning my truck to the ground thing though.

If you want the inside of your glove box warm, turn your defroster on high. It'll get in there. Do it all the time with both of my trucks.

he has to take a drug test and cant use his pee because he will fail so hes going to use someones else's and he doesn't want to put the bottle up his ass to keep it warm so that he doesn't fail the temp part of the test too so he needs to keep someones else's pee warm for the test to pass

After I read it I was like wow, this sounds really plausible.

I must agree, strangely enough, that sounds exactly like what he's doing.

I cant think of what would need to stay warm for up to 8 hours when he may possibly be away from the truck for that long. It's bugging me, come on, spill it!
