Are you talking about the shifter? I did something sortof like you. I got stuck in the middle of a turn in 1st gear! I just forced it over to reverse, then drive again. Umm,, let your vehicle sit for a while. Unplug the battery and tap the brakes. then turn it back on, and restart it. I guess it coulda been a security feature or mine, i replaced a few lights back then too.

Its not an electical function at all. It is controlled by a spring cable that raps around the bottom of your steering column and attaches to the gear shifter. I have heard of these clips breaking before.

When I bought the entire unit for my Sport Trac Cluster it only cost me $11. You do need to remove the knee panel under your dash and the steel plate to get to it. You will also really need to get yourself under the dash to get it. Flexibility is a good thing. Dont forget a flashlight either because there is not much good light under the dash.

He is just talking about the little needle that indicated what gear you are in... P, R, N, D, or 2. Not the actual gear itself in the transmission.

Manuals rock!
