I am thinking about putting a power outlet in the bed of my truck. How hard would this be to install??

Easier to plug the inverter into a 12 volt accessory plug, but you could do the conversion at the engine and run 120 out to the bed. That's a whole lotta work.

For camping and tailgates, most people just run 12 volt out to the bed then use an inverter. For bigger inverters, you clamp right to the battery.

If you're doing heavy duty stuff, it's best to look into a deep cycle marine battery. Also, the bigger inverters come with a feature that will start the engine when needed. As I said before, that's a whole lotta work, since you are now running a high voltage cable in the truck.

 

I put my 2500W inverter behind my seat, and just made a shelf to go over for more storage. If you take out the jump seat there is plenty of room back there, and there is a hole in the floor for the wires to pass through from the engine compartment. That way everything stays clean and cool, which you need for an inverter. I have vent shades on my truck, and i just run an extension cord out the slightly opened window when ever I need to vacume my truck with the shop vac, or use the blender on the tailgate to make drinks for the girls while tailgating (not that guys can't drink frozen drinks :o).

That would be great if you could post a pic for me. I got a air compressor for the birthday and I would like to be able to run it from my truck without having to find a plug somewhere.
