HVAC and AC compressor
HVAC and AC compressor
Does anyone know if the A/C compressor run in the first position to the right from off (Mix?)? I didn't think it did but yesterday it sounded like my compressor was running so I flipped the switch to off and it stopped. I am not sure why it would be running in that position
I was making a rather large noise like it does when it gets hot, I have been running the HVAC in that position for a while now but didnt think the A/C compressor ran so I never turned on the efan

thanks, guess that would explain why my mpg has been lower then usual the past month. over the summer the HVAC is normally in the OFF position.
Well i hope i didn't damage the compressor too bad.

what are the advantages and disadvantages of this? ford has the compressor come on for some reason during those other HVAC positions.
Running the compressor regularly keeps the seals and bearings lubricated for increased reliability. It also helps dehumidify the interior air in winter time.
I have a compressor disable switch on mine but I make a point of allowing the compressor to run for a few minutes at least once a month, even in the winter.

In the snow I will run the defroster, which is the only time I run it. Otherwise its vent only for me. Some people cant have the vent on like that as it dries your the nose/eyes.
The mod is still a good idea, also adding an led or light to indicate the compressor is on. Just to remind yourself the slight drop in mileage.

I usually run my heater on floor full blast... idk if I get better gas mileage, but I have got-- for the first time-- 150 miles on just over 1/2 tank with the topper on... and it's cool enough I can not use the a/c at all.

BTW, my compressor runs in floor/vent mode too, I am about to do the same mod, when I get time.

50 is pretty cold when it's all wet/swampy out...
I used to live out west, and 45 is a little chilly to me
