whenever i shift gears, the RPM will drop to 2K and hold there, this makes shifting below 3K irritating, as 2nd gear is kind of a ***** to get in. also, if i come to a stop, the engine will stay at 1.5K for a few seconds, even when its at its normal temp.

why does my truck do this? i drove a couple of diesels a while ago (2000 and a 2008 PSD), and when you push the clutch in, the engine drops right down to idle, no bull****ting about it.

 

It's called a 145K truck and things wear out.



Swap for a new IAC valve. It's sticking and causing the idle to stay high when you push in the clutch.
