i officially hate 12 volt electric!

alrite. so i got me a light bar for the tailgate and i was jus gunna hook it up to my trailer light plug in. Well i plug it in and nothing. so i look down there and theres a white wire that seems to be a ground wire and its grounded to the bottom of my bumper but then it isnt connected in to anything. its just hanging there. I'm more than willing to bet that this is the problem but can anyone tell me where it hoox up to?

the reverse light wire in your tail lights. the 4 pin trailer plug doesnt have a reverse light plug so you have to tap into the tail light

yes that in the picture. Well i just can't imagine a wire being grounded to the bottom of my bumper and being stripped on the other side but just not plugged in to anything being just a Random wire. i even broke out the tester and theres no power gettin to the running light plug. i believe that that wire belongs in that circuit. Does anyone else have a white wire grounded to the bottom of their bumper?

NOOO!!! lol the bar has a 4 prong connector on it. This wire was just hanging down from my bumper!!!!!!!! I wish i had a good camera right now. This wire has somehting to do with the electrical on my TRUCK. Its grounded to my BUMPER and it used to be connected to something but it has come unconnecte and i need to know where to reconnect it.

its probably nothing. i bet the old owner of your truck had reverse lights on the truck and took them off leaving the ground wire.

yes there is a fuse for the trailer plug. if the fuse is fine you might have to check the wiring to make sure its all still in tact

White wire grounded to the bumper = ground wire for your trailer connector. I'm going o guess there is only 3 wires going into your trailer connector, as the white one is supposed to be molded in to where the unshielded prong is on the plug.

If the 3 wires (Yellow / Brown / Green usually) are on an extension cable sort of thing, coming from the T harness that connects to inline with you taillights, you can just get a new extension, and use the ground that came with the new stuff.

If it goes in to the T harness, you'd need to get a whole new T harness if it can't be reconnected to it.

Yep, the white wire is the ground wire. The "T" connector that came on my truck went bad about after a month I owned the truck.

ite. well my t-connector wasn't bad. i tested everything again and its all hot and good. The light bar is acting up. It turns on when i turn on the running lights, then if i hit the brakes it cuts off. If i have the running lights on and hit left blinker it makes the whole bar flash. If i have the running lights off and hit the right blinker it works fine but the bar cuts off if i hit right blinker with the running lights on. Anyone Heard of this before?

Look at the trailer connector. I bet it is all corroded and messed up. That will do it every time. Also, if you don't have the trailer connectors ground wire connected to anything, it will also really mess with LED's.

This is screaming corroded connector or ground problems. I really doubt there is a problem with the lights.
