This was written for 2001~2003 but will also work on your 97. The location and layout of the GEM is a little different but the color codes are the same.

The link I posted above will kill the chime and still allow the dome light to work. It's easy. Just jump one wire.

Probably just need to lube the door ajar switch (part of the door latch). They get gummed up and stick.

Try lubing your door latchs and working the latch asm.

I can't get thre dang radio out-the right side come loose easy but the left side I can't get to unlatch. By the way this is my hunting truck so I want the light , ignition and seat beat chine disabled. got thelight by removing one screw anddisconnected seat belt so I got one to go.

It sounds like you have deleted everything except the ignition key sense. You can disable that by cutting and taping the black/pink wire to the ignition lock (right side of steering column). Don't touch anything else in that harness because the airbag wires are in there.

This post has made me the happiest ranger owner in the world! I've been fighting with my damn door chime since the day I bought the truck. I did everything else but hit it with some WD40. I first tried the fuse, but that also disabled the speedometer and wipers. I tried to unplug the pin from the wiring harness, and although the speedo worked, I didn't realize my wipers were disabled until I was caught in the rain. Thank you rwenzing and R-F!!!
