ignition lock cylinder has screwed the poodge
ignition lock cylinder has screwed the poodge
i went to get in my truck at work to go to lunch and put the key in the ignition and it spinned freely to start and nothing happened except my accessories came on (cd and dash lights) and wouldnt turn off when i spun back to off....so im guessing i need a new ignition lock cylinder..i read how to replace it using the awl and key....but auto zone lists two diffrent types..one for 36 bucks and one for 64 bucks
will i need to get the expenxive one because i have the PATS key or will i be able to get the cheaper and not have PATS anymore? no biggie to me...

i think you would have to get the one with pats because the computer reads when you have the transponder key in the ignition and sends to signal for the ok to start. you might also have to get the new ignition with the transponder key programmed for the ecu to work correctly
You will need the one for the PATS key. You could even take it to a locksmith and have it rekeyed to your existing key so you do not have to reflash the ECU. It is also possible that the housing itself is messed up. Ford meshed two plastic pieces together and they like to strip out.
well i took out the cylinder and its the nipple piece that turns...the shaft part broke and the gear is stuck...i will remove it tomorrow and try to get a locksmith to re-key a new one for my keys....thanks guys!
