You guys need to go to www.ipodtouchfans.com and follow the tutorials on how to jailbreak your iPod(update to 2.2 first if you haven't, there's a few more features). It only takes a few minutes and like 4 clicks after you download the file and program you need. Then go onto Youtube and search for "how to get free appstore apps 2.2" or differnet wording, it's all the same. There are 1000 video tutorials on it and it too is very easy. I did it and I have a bunch of appstore apps that cost money, for free. Owning an iPod touch or iPhone isn't worth it unless you jailbreak it and add cracked apps, especially the iPhone since more apps work with it since it has 3G/Edge and is always connected online anywhere.

I'm on my iPhone 3g right now. I ordered something like that for mine but it mounts on the windshield instead. I didn't want to have my phone in front of the vent in case the hot air could overheat it.

i got that one cuz it was easier to access than on the windshield. i just turned the dial on the vent to stop air from going out of it. problem solved.
i did see that windshield mount one. looked good as well

1st Gen Iphone owner here. I've dropped it on pavement over a dozen times, got it covered with water, and left it in major VA summer heat and the thing still runs like a champ. Way more durable than you'd think...

That being said - don't jailbrake an iPhone. I'm not sure how much effect it'll have on the iTouch, but it pretty much voids your warantee and promises tons of trouble updating/installing down the road. I realize Apple sucks at getting seemingly simple utilities out there, but being patient is the best thing you can do.

What does the jailbreak exactly do? It gives you free apps?

It lets you put on custom firmware, which enables you to get free apps.

Um no? It doesn't void any warranty, all you have to do is just restore it before you do anything with AT&T or Apple if your concerned. You don't even need to see the screen to restore, so even if the screen is broken you'll be fine.

It doesn't cause any issues updating either, the only issue is after you update the firmware you have to rejailbreak once they figure out how to do it. You don't even have to update either, you can decline if you want. It doesn't make anything hard to install either? You can still download stuff from the Appstore while jailbroken. It doesn't promise any trouble...

Completely untrue. With the latest versions of firmware that they've been able to Jailbreak, there is no way to successfully un-jail it without resetting the entire phone. That means you lose all your contacts, call information, applications, EVERYTHING. I guarantee you that many Apple Store applications WILL have problems running on a jailbroken phone. That's why programs like XPlane 9 had such a long beta phase - because stupid jailbreak owners were *****ing about not being able to update their software due to their jacked up firmware. Please, look further into it before opening your mouth.

For the record - I've had 3 friends who had service declined on their phones/touches because they had previously jailbroken them and were unable to restore the original firmware without resetting all their information. I personally jailbroke my phone and it was a big mistake - all sorts of battery problems and syncing issues with the iTunes store. Only after I completely bounced my phone did any of those problems go away. Apple designs their firmware to be used in a very tight operating environment. Jailbreak programmers are unable to work around all the restrictions Apple has put in place. It's fact.

I just had one question about this. Unable to find anything on the web.

Is it free to surf the web then? You don't have to have it subscribed with anyone.

STL, yes. It's free to use WiFi on them and you don't have to sign up or pay for anything. Same as using WiFi on a laptop.

Yes, like I said, restoring it. If it's jailbroken you should have a backup of all of the contacts anyway. I know like 5 people with jailbroken 2.X firmwares, running cracked appstore apps and other free ones from Installer and Cydia. No problems. Got 2.2 on my Touch, cracked apps and other free ones. No problems. I knew people before with iPhones running 1.1.X jailbroken with pages of apps, no problems.

I don't know why you would expect any form of service while having it jailbroken, it should be common sense to restore it first?

The first link is irrelevant, thats old firmware. Everyone should have 2.2 now, especially since you can download it for free off Apples server. Even if you don't buy it.

Second link was probably user error, he probably did something wrong or had some weird apps or something on it.

I just think it's dumb not to jailbreak, you get soooo many more features after you jailbreak and for free too. Go ahead and buy appstore apps with your money, I'll download them for free. More money for me, less for Apple.

The new ones are Gen 2 right? Both Gen 1 and gen 2 when turned sideways flip the screen right.
