kind of important~help

the other night when i was just drivin with my buddy, my truck shut off and wouldnt crank over, lights and everything worked, fuses were good, then i pressed the inertia switch and it fired right up afterwards.. would hitting the inertia switch with your foot or something shut off the fuel pump and kill the truck?

I suppose if you hit it just right, it could happen. However i didn't think that would disable the starter. I thought it just shut off the fuel pump.

Yeah, I believe it only cuts off the fuel pump so it should have still cranked over.

it still cranked over, so would hitting it just shut the fuel pump off? i about **** my self when it happend b/c i was in the middle of a main road doin about 20mph under(due to engine shutting off) and had to cut alot of ppl over rather than get stuck in the middle lane ha. then pushing it thru the intersection sucked ***!

Back in the early 90s this was a common problem. If it does it again.. just replace it.

umm...noob question here...whats an inertia switch? Does it have to do with an older truck being carb'd and not fuel injected?

It is a switch that senses excessive G-Force. It assumes this means you just crashed and it shuts off power to the electric fuel pump.

ahh i see, but what I dont understand is how you can just "hit it with your foot"??? Is it a physical switch, something like a toggle....and if so, where the heck is it? I've never heard nor seen anything like that
