MAF mod question???

I did the MAF mod to a spare maf housing that I had. It is for a 99 3.0 FFV ranger.

My question is:

When the modded housing is in, it runs fine. But then starts to ping when the engine is under a heavy load and the CEL light comes on and gives a code P0174 SYSTEM TOO LEAN (BANK 2).

When the normal housing is in, I don't get a CEL light and no pinging under a heavy load.

I did the mod as described at Rogue performance's web site.
The link is Rogue Performance MAF Mod

Any one have an idea of why this happens????????????

It looks just like the finished product that's pictured in the link that I posted above.

MAF was improved for 2004 and newer, on 4.0 anywayno
it is metal now and sits flush against the top of the intake
so no, you can not MOD the MAF in that fashion
