More weird stuff

reference earlier post about radio

2001 ranger 3.0, 4x2

didn’t really need radio for road trip- ranger did well for 5 days, 1000 mile each way trip with a few day trips in between. On return, battery was drained ( alt indicated mid span on gage whole time)
had alt and battery tested ( battery 4 months old, alt appx 20 years old)
alt tests “questionable”, 13.65 v intermittent replaced alt with car quest reman unit
jump car, indicates solid charging
charge indicator drops 6 miles in, barely make it back to driveway

I know this alt is failed, but did I miss something?

has another member gone thru this?

I’ve put a bit into this thing in the past 6 months tires,rear shocks, changed differential juice, brakes, brake fluid change, blah blah blah- I really don’t want to torch it

You burned the alternator up using it to charge a dead battery, good chance your battery is also toast now.

Replacing batt and alt in morning

New battery and new (non reman) alternator will be installed in morning- both are new as of this evening- what checks are critical for replacement to be successful ( not 6mile success, like last)

with neg cable removed on old battery ( still had 8 volts) 0 volts to chassis - chasing the battery issue for a system ground) no audible on continuity from pos to chassis

Alternator plug and B post wire connectors were solid on removal, as were battery terminals

belt is good

small dmm available

Voltages and no run amp draw

No run amp draw is showing .75 to .8 amps

its not the cabin light, pulled fuses in pass compartment first with zero change on draw

voltage check running 14.65

solo clip (S) to grd 14.5

Continuing on with electrical issues

Replaced battery saver relay and no appreciable change in draw

while driving the new alternator will stop charge at idle, and then it goes into anti theft mode- killing wipers and door locks. Shift to neutral and increase rpm - it’s good. W???

will be cleaning all ground “strap” connections and probably replace battery neg cable…still hoping for a recommendation
