my headlights drain my battery

i was at my cousins house this morning and forgot my headlights were on for about 5 or 10 minutes. i went outside and was gonna leave and it wouldnt start. my battery was dead as hell. i had to jump it and let it idle for a few minutes to get my truck goin. is this normal? i know i screwed up by leaving them on. the battery dies whenever i leave the headlights on for a few minutes. should it drain it that quick?

It will not drain that quickly. I've left my lights on for hours and the truck still started. You have a problem somewhere, possibly the battery or the alt. is not charging the battery. Have the battery tested first and then the alternator and go from there.

Does the battery charge with the truck running?

How much current is present when your truck/lights are off?
How much when the lights are on and the truck is not?
How much when the truck is on?

You should be running at least 12v, more when the truck is running.
